Pianist Zoya Shuhatovich's busy career has included appearances in the United States, France, Germany, Russia, Poland, Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Alla Aranovskaya, the first violinist and a founding member of the renowned St. Petersburg String Quartet. Boris Vayner is also a founding member of the St. Petersburg String Quartet, and also a member of the Krasny Quartet, Mr. Vayner received 1st prize at the Gartow Fund Chamber Music Competition in St. Petersburg in 1999, and recorded the complete quartets of Vissarion Shebalin for Sony Classical. Together, they form the Indigo Trio.

Zoya Shuhatovich, piano
Pianist Zoya Shuhatovich's busy career has included appearances in the United States, France, Germany, Russia, Poland, Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
She received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance from the Gorky State Conservatory and was subsequently appointed to the faculty. She performed extensively as soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician throughout the former Soviet Union and Europe prior to coming to the United States in 1993.
In 1994 Ms. Shuhatovich joined the faculty of the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston where she served until 2001. She made her New York début in 1998, opening the Chopin Festival with a solo recital appearance.
Her recent performances have included many solo and chamber music appearances with such artists as Laszio Varga, Yair Kless, Boris Garlitsky, and the St. Petersburg String Quartet.
Fellow artists and critics alike have praised Ms. Shuhatovich's musical intelligence, beauty of tone, and technical skill.
Ms. Shuhatovich is a Steinway Artist.
Alla Aranovskaya, violin
Alla Aranovskaya, the first violinist and a founding member of the renowned St. Petersburg String Quartet, was born in August, 1958 in St. Petersburg (then Leningrad), Russia. She started to play piano when she was two and a half years old, and violin at the age of six. In 1985 she graduated from the St. Petersburg Conservatory, receiving her Masters degree in 1987 and her Doctorate of Music in 1989.
She was the winner of the All-Russia Solo Violin Competition in 1985. From 1987 until 2001 she was Professor of Violin at the St. Petersburg Conservatory, Russia. She has been a jury member of several major competitions including the 2004 Melbourne, Australia International Chamber Music Competition, and her students have won numerous prizes at competitions around the world.
Along with Boris Vayner, she is also a founding member of the Brahms Piano Quartet.
Boris Vayner, viola
Boris Vayner was born in 1977 in Novosibirsk, Russia and began to play the violin at age 7. He studied at the St. Petersburg Conservatory and Berlin's Hochschule fur Musik "Hanns Eisler."
As a member of the Krasny Quartet, Mr. Vayner received 1st prize at the Gartow Fund Chamber Music Competition in St. Petersburg in 1999, and recorded the complete quartets of Vissarion Shebalin for Sony Classical. In 2002, he received 2nd prize in the Gartow Fund Solo Competition.
Mr. Vayner was assistant principal viola in the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra. After moving to Boston, he studied at the New England Conservatory in the class of Carol Rodland, attended master classes by Kim Kashkashian and Karen Tuttle, and played with the New England Conservatory Philharmonia. He joined the St. Petersburg Quartet in 2004.
As members of the St. Petersburg Quartet, Alla Aranovskaya and Boris Vayner have appeared in prestigious music series and festivals in North America, Europe and Asia, including opening night performances on the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center Quartet Series and the Mostly Mozart festival at Lincoln Center. The Quartet has toured Germany, the Netherlands (including the Concertgebouw), Ireland, Iceland, Poland, Japan, Spain, Italy, France, Belgium, South Korea, Taiwan, Russia, Belgium and Mexico.
They have collaborated with violist Michael Tree of the Guarneri Quartet, Van Cliburn gold medalist Olga Kern, and the late Ruth Laredo, among many others distinguished musicians. Early in their career the SPSQ won 1st prize at the All-Soviet Union String Quartet Competition; the silver medal and a special prize at the Tokyo International Chamber Music Competition, 1st prize and both special prizes at the Vittorio Gui International Competition in Florence, Italy, and 1st Prize and the "Grand Prix Musica Viva" at the Melbourne, Australia Competition.
The SPSQ has recorded the complete cycle of Shostakovich string quartets on the Hyperion label, as well as the Prokofiev and Glazunov quartets on the Delos label and the Borodin and Prokofiev quartets on the Dorian label. Their disk of Shostakovich Quartets Nos. 3, 5 & 7 on the Sony label was a Grammy nominee, and their disk of Shostakovich Quartets Nos. 5, 7 & 9 won the Chamber Music America/WQXR Radio Prize for Best Chamber CD (2001).
From 1997 to 2003, the St. Petersburg Quartet was in residence at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, and in 2010 was appointed Quartet in Residence at Wichita State University.
